I just noticed that Humira was approved about a month ago for treatment of moderately to severely active Crohn's disease. That's good news for Crohn's suffers. Not only is Humira yet another alternative treatment, it's a lot easier to administer. Up until Humira came along, the only other drug in this class was Remicade. Remicade is very effective (I know it did wonders for me) but the only way to get it is by infusion, meaning you had to go to a doctor's office or a hosptial and have a nurse set you up with an IV; a 2 hour long procedure. Humira is self-administered via an injection into the leg or abdomen. Another difference between Humira and Remicade is that Humira is fully human while Remicade is mostly human but does have some mice antibodies as well. I'm not sure that means anything as when it comes to a disease like Crohn's, it's all about whatever works.
